'Mobile Market Week' supports grocery access in Columbia area food deserts
Mobile Market Week rolls into the Columbia area this week with the hope of raising awareness and support of grocery access in food deserts. Midlands Organized Response for Equity and Justice (MORE Justice), an interfaith coalition of 28 racially, socio-economically and religiously diverse congregations, wants to "encourage people to shop small, shop local, and shot the Mobile Market."
MORE Justice holds seventh annual Community Problems Assembly to identify top priorities for community research and action
Midlands Organized Response for Equity and Justice (MORE Justice), an interfaith coalition of 27 racially, socio-economically, and religiously diverse congregations, will hold their seventh annual Community Problems Assembly (CPA) on Monday, October 30, 2023 at Beth Shalom Synagogue (5827 N Trenholm Road). For those interested in learning more about the organization’s current priorities, arrive early at 5:45 to participate in a “Data Walk” to see displays deepening our understanding of the problems and the solutions around Food Insecurity, Affordable Housing and Gun Violence. The event itself will begin at 6:10 pm.
Columbia Mayor, council members talk scope of proposed gun violence prevention office
Rickenmann’s proposal asked for $802,800 for three years of funding for the office. If voted into existence as pitched, the office would include a director overseeing a team of “violence interrupters” and partnership coordinators. “We’ve got to do something different, and we’ve got to have somebody who’s a lead coordinator. Right now there’s not a lead coordinator anywhere,” he said.
